FROM WYNNUM WEST STATE SCHOOL
This year marks a significant milestone for Wynnum West State School, with the school’s 100th-year centenary celebrated on 15 May. The school has played an essential part in the community over the last 100 years, helping to build a solid foundation for many students past and present.
After lobbying the government from 1917-1921, Wynnum West State School was opened on 15 May 1922, with approximately 70 student enrolments in the first year. Today, the school has close to 400 students enrolled.
Principal Ben Turner said over the 100 years, the community has experienced many momentous changes and challenges. “Our community absolutely love being involved in our school. We have seen generations of families enrolled over the years, which is a real testament to the school,” he said.
The school treasures community involvement and is proud of the individual care they give every student.
The school is holding a day of celebration and would like to invite the community to enjoy a fun-filled day on Saturday, 10 September from 10am to 2pm.
There will be something to delight everyone so come along for some fabulous family fun with rides, food stalls, class stalls and games, face painting, memorabilia, performances by the school and lots more. These festivities recognise not only the school’s past and present accomplishments but also reflect the passion and commitment of the entire school community and the proud long tradition of serving it.
See you on the 10 September, and happy 100 years, Wynnum West!
