Golfers who enjoy playing a round on the green are invited to tee off for a good cause next month, with registrations now open for the inaugural Redland Prostate Cancer Awareness Golf Day.
Hosted by the Cancer Council Redland Branch, the event will see players hit the fairways at the Redland Bay Golf Club on September 4, giving them the chance to enjoy some friendly competition while helping to make a difference in the lives of men affected by cancer.
Redlands Branch volunteer Jill Watson said organisers were excited to launch a new fun-filled event focused solely on men’s health.
“We wanted to do something a little different and thought a golf day would be a great way to bring people together while supporting an important cause,” she said.
“It’s a great opportunity for people to enjoy a day on the course while helping to make a real difference for men and families affected by cancer.
“Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just looking for a good day out with your friends or colleagues, we’d love to have you involved.”
A community health forum will also run on the day, giving attendees the chance to gain valuable insights into their own health and speak directly with local urologists, radiation oncologists, GPs, allied health professionals and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia nurses.
“We encourage people to register for the forum as well so we can accommodate everyone who would like to attend.”
The event will be a four-player Ambrose competition played over 18 holes.
Players can register as a team of four or sign up individually and be placed in a team.
To help ensure the day is a success, businesses are encouraged to jump on board and help drive change by either entering a team, sponsoring the event, or sponsoring a hole.
The cost is $90 per person or $360 per team and includes green fees, buggy hire, breakfast, a sit-down lunch and prizes.
Registration and breakfast will begin at 6.30am, ahead of an 8am shotgun start.
For those who don’t play golf, a non-player morning tea will be held from 9:30am. Tickets are $15 and include morning tea, coffee and a raffle ticket.
