FROM COOCHIE LAWN SERVICES
Did you know that many lawn problems start during winter but don’t become visible until spring?
While your lawn may not be growing as quickly in winter as it does in spring and summer, it still needs ongoing care to stay healthy and strong, as well as to help it prepare for the warmer months ahead.
We know that great spring and summer lawns are built now during winter. By focusing on controlling winter weeds like bindis and wintergrass and continuing to remove persistent perennial weeds, you are setting the grass up for less competition and healthier growth.
It is essential to be looking for and treating fungal diseases now, as these have exploded over the past two months due to the wet autumn and start of winter we had, and I’m seeing diseased lawns everywhere around your suburb at the moment.
Now is a great time to provide essential nutrients to the soil, as winter is an important time to strengthen lawn roots specifically. And don’t forget to apply the right amount of fertiliser now to help encourage greening and maintain a lush, healthy lawn.
Skipping lawn care during winter can lead to:
- More weeds taking hold
- Increased pest activity going unnoticed
- Greater risk of diseases
- Weaker root systems
- A slower recovery when spring arrives
A little attention now can make a huge difference when the warmer weather returns.
