Bay Islands Kindness Inc. was established with a simple but powerful purpose: to lift the island community through kindness by providing access to donated food, clothing, household essentials, basic disability aids, and other necessities to residents experiencing hardship.
The organisation also creates opportunities for connection, inclusion, and community participation through programs, events, and activities. The home for this heart-warming enterprise has been a rent-free cottage on Macleay Island – but things are changing, and the Bay Islands Kindness management team is sending out an urgent appeal.
“The owner of the cottage intends to sell the property,” says Natalie Lutter, president of Bay Islands Kindness.
“While we are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown to us over the years, we now face the very real possibility of losing a place where people can come together without judgement, practical support is distributed, volunteers connect, and new community initiatives are born.”
The team is reaching out in the hope that a community individual or organisation may be able to assist by providing a suitable property, financial support, grants, sponsorship, or fundraising opportunities.
“This cottage has become much more than a building,” says Natalie.
“It is a safe, welcoming and peaceful community hub where friendships have formed, vulnerable community members have found support, and future projects have begun to take shape. It is a valuable community asset for those who need it most.”
