Whether you’ve had a lifelong interest in woodworking or are keen to learn a new skill, the Wood and Craft Showcase at the Belmont Shooting Complex is set to offer something for everyone.
Hosted by the Woodturners Society of Queensland, the event will run from May 29 to 31 and feature a wide range of handcrafted items, live demonstrations, and the opportunity to connect with skilled artisans.
Having been a member of the group for more than 15 years, secretary Binny Willis said this event is not to be missed.
“Our members have been busy turning all year and this event gives them the opportunity to show off their skills and sell some of their beautiful handcrafted items,” Binny said.
“There will be plenty of wooden bowls, platters, turned and carved spoons, turned wooden fruit, decorative boxes, jewellery boxes, jewellery, bird feeders, toys, glasswork and more.
“There will also be tools and machinery for sale, as well as timber because we know sometimes getting your hands on good quality milled wood can be difficult.
“Attendees will also get a glimpse into the kind of woodworking our group does with demonstrations in woodturning and pyrography, which is the art of burning images and designs onto the wood.”
Established more than 40 years ago, the Woodturners Society of Queensland provides a forum for members to learn woodturning and other woodcrafts in a safe environment.
Based in Greenslopes, they welcome people of all ages and genders and host two major events a year.
“We are excited to bring this event to Belmont for the first time because it’s a big space and we have a lot of members who live on Brisbane’s southside and bayside,” Binny said.
The showcase will run from 12:00pm to 4:00pm on Friday, 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, and 9:00am to 3:00pm on Sunday. Entry is free and a cafe will be available on-site.
