With spring now upon us, now is the time to get your lawn into shape for the coming growing season.

Early spring is a great time to ensure you have looked after any remaining weeds, planned for any lawn renovations, protected against lawn pests, and set the right watering schedule.

By focusing on and controlling weeds now, you are setting the grass up to face less competition and grow more healthily once the weather warms up. Be on the lookout for new spring weeds and foreign grasses and eradicate them early.

I’d start planning any renovations over the coming month or two; this could be anything from dethatching, scarifying, aerating, or coring to even top dressing. Different lawns have different renovation or management needs, and it’s critical to get this process right if you want that improved lawn over summer.

Now is a great time to apply the right amount of fertiliser to help encourage greening and maintain a lush, healthy lawn. With the warmer weather, also be on the lookout for pest issues, as those dreaded lawn grubs are only just around the corner.

Finally, ensure you have a watering schedule for the warmer weather, as it dries out soil moisture more quickly than during the past cooler months, and this change in weather can sometimes catch lawn owners out.
