Forget the holiday screen slump – Brisbane kids are being challenged to swap their devices for outdoor adventures as a Survivor-inspired school holiday experience brings games, laughter and fun to Carindale and Manly this September.
Part of Brisbane City Council’s school holiday program and delivered by Life. Be In It. Funworks, the one-day challenge puts kids through their paces with a mix of physical and mental games.
According to program coordinator Glenn Covill, while the challenge takes inspiration from the hit television show Survivor, the real goal is making sure everyone has a great time.
“All the activities are loads of fun, but some will challenge the kids mentally and physically in a fun and positive way,” he said.
From racing to complete a team Connect 4 Relay to tackling the giant puzzle challenge, the action-packed Earth Ball relay challenge, smash and grab, and the catapult catch, every activity is designed to get the kids talking, planning and cheering each other on.
“Working together as a team and encouraging one another to succeed is what we like to see,” Glenn said.
He originally created the Survivor Challenge more than 20 years ago for high schools and corporate groups. Since then, the activities have been adapted so younger participants can safely enjoy the experience.
The Survivor Challenge will be held at the Carindale Recreational Reserve from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on September 25 and at Drevesen Park in Manly from 10:00am to 12:00pm on September 30.
