The RedCity Roar U14 Girls Basketball Team recently demonstrated that being part of a team means much more than what happens on the court, leading a powerful community initiative in support of local charity, Night Ninjas.
Held at Redlands PCYC, the community collection drive saw an overwhelming response from RedCity families, players and the wider community. Throughout the day, donations poured in to support people in the local area experiencing hardship and homelessness.
Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, the team collected approximately $150 in cash donations, along with essential items including hoodies, tracksuit pants, socks, sleeping gear, non-perishable food, soups, noodles, baked beans, long-life milk, toiletries and snack items.
The initiative was driven by the U14 Roar Girls and their head coach, Helen Rameka, who embraced the opportunity to give back and make a meaningful difference beyond basketball. Parents, families and supporters also played a significant role in helping the day run successfully and modelling the importance of community service and compassion.
The President of Night Ninjas personally thanked the team and community for their support, acknowledging the impact these donations will have on individuals and families doing it tough.
RedCity Roar is incredibly proud of the leadership, empathy and teamwork shown by the U14 Girls and their coach, Helen. Their efforts highlighted the positive culture within the RedCity community and the importance of supporting others both on and off the court.
