A free community event will be held on the Redlands Coast to launch NAIDOC Week 2026, inviting residents to come together to celebrate culture, connection and “Fifty Years of Deadly”.

The Redlands Coast NAIDOC Cultural Celebration will be held on Sunday, July 5, at Raby Bay Harbour Park in Cleveland, offering fun for all ages between 9:00am and 2:00pm.

The event will open the national week of recognition, which celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Headlining the day will be performances from First Nations artists, including Joe Geia and band, alongside the Yulu Burri Ba dancers.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the event plays an important role in strengthening cultural understanding across the region.

“The Redlands Coast NAIDOC Cultural Celebration is a free event that celebrates First Nations heritage and the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander languages, arts, dance and music,” she said.

“By making First Nations culture visible and accessible, events such as this helps break down barriers, challenge misconceptions and build mutual understanding.

“This results in a more inclusive and respectful community.

“I encourage everyone to come along on the day to enjoy a vibrant program that celebrates this year’s NAIDOC Week theme, Fifty Years of Deadly.

“This includes powerful live performances by First Nations artists, a traditional smoking ceremony, cultural demonstrations and storytelling.

“There are also weaving workshops, activities for children, giveaways, market and information stalls, and opportunities to connect with local organisations.”

Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets or chairs to enjoy the open-air setting.

The celebration is delivered by Redland City Council in partnership with Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation.

NAIDOC Week will run nationally from July 5 to 12 with events held across the country.
