Fresh air and free fun are on offer when residents swap four wheels for two during a guided bike ride along the Bulimba Creek Bikeway on June 20.
The Bulimba Creek Bikeway Explorer event will take riders on a mostly flat journey through parts of Brisbane’s eastern suburbs, including Murarrie, Cannon Hill, Carina and Carindale, following the creek as it winds through parklands, wetlands and open green space.
Designed for a wide range of ages and abilities, the ride takes place on dedicated bike paths, with opportunities to stop and enjoy the surroundings often missed from the road.
This free event is part of Brisbane City Council’s Cycling Brisbane program, which encourages people to get active and build confidence on a bike through guided rides and workshops.
Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said Brisbane’s bikeway network played a key role in supporting active lifestyles.
“Brisbane is Australia’s lifestyle capital and the best place to live, work and raise a family,” he said.
“We’ve delivered great bikeways across the city that help people stay active and healthy all year round.
“The Bulimba Creek Bikeway is one of our most popular family-friendly rides because it’s safe, largely off-road and suitable for all ages.
“Stretching around 20 kilometres from Murarrie to Eight Mile Plains, it winds through beautiful parklands, wetlands and open spaces, with plenty of places to stop along the way for a picnic or a play.
“Some of the highlights include the Brisbane International Cycle Park and Minnippi Parklands, where riders can enjoy scenic boardwalks, lagoons, and even spot local wildlife like swans, cormorants and, if you’re lucky, a koala or swamp wallaby.”
The guided ride is one of a series of free activities offered across the city, encouraging residents to explore Brisbane’s growing bikeway network while staying active and connected.
The ride will be held from 9:00am to 11:00am and is suitable for adults and children aged 12 and over, with participants under 18 required to be supervised by a guardian.
