One of the bayside’s favourite summer spots is about to get its annual refresh.
The Wynnum Wading Pool temporarily closed on 6 July for its yearly maintenance program, with crews carrying out essential work to have the much-loved pool ready for families when the weather warms up again.
The winter closure helps avoid disruptions during the busy summer months, when thousands of locals and visitors flock to the heritage-listed pool to cool off and enjoy the bayside.
Maintenance will include:
- servicing pumps and equipment,
- cleaning the pool walls,
- repairing the western wall and non-slip surfaces on the steps,
- and reshaping the sand inside the pool.
The neighbouring Whimsical Whale Waterplay area also closed for maintenance while the works are carried out.
Families can still make the most of the foreshore during the closure, with the upgraded W. Poole Playground, the Wynnum Wading Pool Park Playground, parklands and scenic waterfront all remaining open.
The Wynnum Wading Pool has been welcoming families since 1932 and remains one of Brisbane’s most recognisable bayside attractions.
Each year, it’s refilled with around 3.6 million litres of seawater, which is filtered and recirculated to keep it clean throughout summer.
The pool is also part of the Wynnum Manly Lota Foreshore Vision and Master Plan, with community feedback now helping shape the draft plan ahead of further consultation later this year.
The pool is expected to reopen in the coming months. Reopening dates will be communicated via the Council website.
