Fresh from a standout run on this year’s Australian Idol, local singer Harlan Goode is already turning his focus to what comes next – and is inviting the community to be part of it.
With an upcoming performance at the Redland Performing Arts Centre, Harlan is bringing the energy, confidence and experience he gained on national television back to a hometown audience eager to see him live.
“Making music is definitely the focus moving forward after Australian Idol,” he said.
“I feel like I’ve developed a lot more drive in every aspect of my career. Not that I didn’t have it before, but being exposed to what a career as a successful artist could look like has made me even hungrier for it.
“In the near future, though, people should keep an eye on RPAC’s website and make sure they’re free on June 27.”
Coached by prominent Australian singer, songwriter, and backing vocalist Carmen Smith, Harlan wowed audiences week after week, ultimately finishing runner-up in the national competition, which saw thousands of people apply for their chance at stardom.
Reflecting on his time on the show, Harlan said the experience exceeded all expectations.
“If I’m being completely honest, I went in with absolutely no expectations, and because of that, it turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life,” he said.
“I made so many great friends throughout the journey that I still keep in touch with, and I just had so much fun the whole way through.
“My favourite moment would definitely have to be performing Somebody to Love by Queen – it’s such an iconic song with huge shoes to fill, and it’s incredibly challenging vocally because of all the tricky intervals.
“I felt like it really allowed me to showcase not just my vocals, but also who I am as a performer.
“Also, getting to perform The Prayer with Anthony Callea was just surreal.”
With his dreams now coming true from the experience, Harlan has some good advice for other young people who dream of taking to the stage as a career.
“I still consider myself an aspiring musician, but the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that nothing happens if you sit around waiting for something to,” he said.
“A lot of people (including my past self) wait for the ‘right time,” but the truth is, there’s no such thing.
“Every second spent making excuses is a second you’re delaying your goals – you just have to start.”
