Federal Member for Bonner Kara Cook MP has praised Darling Point Special School for bringing students with disability from across Brisbane together at its 48th Annual Fun Run.
Held along the Wynnum-Manly foreshore, the much-loved event welcomed students from special schools across Brisbane to take part in a 4km fun run celebrating inclusion, achievement and community spirit.
Kara Cook MP said it was inspiring to see students from schools across the Bayside and Brisbane come together to take part in the annual event.
“For 48 years, Darling Point Special School in Manly has organised this fantastic event that promotes inclusion and brings communities together,” she said.
“The Fun Run is so much more than a sporting event. It gives students with disability the chance to challenge themselves, build confidence, have fun and be celebrated by their peers and supporters.
“Every student who crossed the finish line should be incredibly proud. The enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship on display were truly inspiring.”
The event was supported by students from Iona College, whose assistance helped ensure the day ran smoothly.
“A huge thank you to the incredible Iona students who volunteered their time to support the event,” Kara Cook MP said.
“It was wonderful to see young people stepping up to help, encourage participants and contribute to such a positive day. Their support demonstrates the best of community spirit.”
Ms Cook also thanked Darling Point Special School staff, volunteers and organisers for their ongoing dedication to students and families.
“Darling Point Special School is making a real difference in our community every day,” she said.
“This event is a wonderful example of the school’s commitment to supporting students with disability and creating opportunities for them to succeed. Thank you to everyone involved for another outstanding Fun Run.”
